For the love of circus, past, present and future.

The Circus Fans of Australasia Inc. was founded by 5 circus devotees in Newcastle, NSW during the April of 1972. The founding members were Geoff Greaves, Jim Fogarty, Malcom Dickie, Don Coles and Steve Robinson. From its inception, current members continued to grow the organisation through conventions, continually acquiring new circus lovers.

Today, CFA is for those who have the unusual but rewarding interest in this special form of travelling entertainment. Many are interested in circus history, circus memorabilia, circus literature, circus art and circus modelling among other elements. Members are kept up to date with the latest news in Australian circus through the bi-monthly CFA publication – ‘Fanfare’. We also encourage members to actively support the circus when it comes to a town near you!

LITERATURE

Production and distribution of literature on the humane treatment of circus animals for educational purposes.

EVENTS

Bicentenary display in Sydney, 1988. The introduction of a National Circus Week consisting of circus celebrations as of 1992.

AWARDS

Creation of the ‘Circus Personality of the Year’ award to recognise outstanding achievements in the world of circus.

CELEBRATIONS

Celebration of 150 years of Circus in Australia in Launceston, 1997. A special mural was unveiled in 1988 to commemorate the site of Wirth’s Hippodrome.
